Different types of cat-fishing, or different types of sexism. What’s the difference?

Does one's gender influence this cyber-crime?

Keep reading to find out true stories/experiences from teens and find out how cyber-crime can put you behind bars.
Our statistics have shown that people mainly get cat-fished due to friendships. We surveyed teenagers and the data showed us that females are more likely to get cat-fished. Some girls said they thought it was because they are supposedly more gullible, vulnerable and more naive compared to boys. Although the majority said females are more likely to get cat-fished a few others said that It is 50-50 with both genders. The main types of cat-fishing that happen are friendships, nudes and private information.

Last year my friend and I got ourselves into a very bad cat fishing situation. An old friend of hers was saying some unnecessarily rude things behind her back. However, our reaction was poor, and I am ashamed of my actions. We found her number and pretended to be a 14-year-old guy called Matt. We were not expecting her to fall for it, but she did and badly. We found it extremely funny when we asked her for some pics, she sent some ones of her face and then things escalated fast... We ended up having her nudes on my phone at this point we knew what we had done was horrible we quickly changed the topic deleted the photos and BLOCKED her number. We thought this would be something that would blow over, she didn’t know it was us cat fishing her so what’s the harm? We saw her around school we waved and smiled she was.... oblivious which made it worse. Towards the end of the year my friend and I got into some drama with the rest of our friend group. One girl knew about the cat fishing situation, she used this against us it was one of the most awful things I have ever had to do in my life... we had to tell her face to face. This girl blackmailed us saying she would go to the police if we didn’t tell the girl we cat fished her. We knew it was a long shot and even though she had no proof we didn’t want to risk it. We told the girl and expected her to be fuming mad however, she was in tears. I felt so bad although I have matured a lot since then. I still see her in the corridors and she smiles, I smile. I can see she’s hurt. I have learnt my lesson and NEVER again will I mess with identity theft.

In conclusion we have answered our question with a sense of satisfaction. Our question was What types of cat-fishing vary between genders? We came to a realization that females are more likely to get cat-fished because they are seen as more 'vulnerable'. From our data we found out that females are more prone to catfish their friends. Males deal with friend problems 'face to face' or with their fists. Overall, we found out that the gender doesn't really affect the person's reasons to catfish.
