Why do people make fake accounts?

• Tired of all the drama
Maybe there is something going on in their life and they want to make an account that is not them and start new as someone else.
•To scam people
To get people to buy expensive things off them (but when it gets to them they are really bad quality so they got scammed.)
• Fake profiles for gaming
To make gaming accounts to sign up for instead of using their main emails.
• To scare people
To threaten people away from people and to creep people out.
• To get likes and followers and once they get heaps expose themselves to be famous
Post random posts that other people have made/taken and post them for themselves, using them to gain followers and likes.
• So people can have chats that they could otherwise not have had
Maybe because people don’t like them in real life so they need to make a fake account so they can have those conversations that they want to have.
• To find people’s locations
To track people down who have either done something to them or they want to track them down for some sort of business or kidnap.
• To pretend to be someone that they would like to be
They would like to be the person that they are showing because they want to DM people and not expose their real identity
• To find love
On their main accounts they may not think they are attractive enough to they make fake accounts with fake profile pictures to find someone to love but it always doesn't work out.
• To stalk people they do not know
to find people online and stalk them by liking every post they post having their post notifications on for whenever they post commenting on every pot of theirs.
• To get attention
some people may not like them so they make a fake account, so they know what it's like to get attention.
• Harassment
they harass people especially girls about everything and saying stuff about them won't leave them alone and they keep texting them.
• Make fake accounts get followers and sell the account for their own profit
get the account really famous and selling it to someone who wants followers and likes and that gives the seller a profit because the person who wants the account will have to pay so much money just to get the account.
• To hack other people
people make fake accounts to make other people's accounts into ads and to just be mean in general.
• Bulling/cyberbullying
ts just like harassment but they are putting other people down about how they look, act, dress, and just all the things around that area.
• Ashamed of themselves
they are ashamed of how they look so they use other people's profile pictures and photos to pretend they are them and that's who they want to be, and they don't want to expose themselves.
• To find information/dirt on people
to get info on people to maybe take to police if they know they have done something wrong or just to collect info to give to other people so they hate them as well
• To stalk someone if they blocked you on your main account
if someone has blocked them on their original account of them self they make another account just to stalk them and they hope that they don’t block them too.
• Pretend to be someone their not
use other people pictures to pretend to be someone else that they are not maybe they want to be that person that they are showing because they are afraid of how they look.
• To stalk family
to stalk family and make sure they are not getting up to business because some families don't follow each other and sometimes having a fake account for that is good to make sure that they are not posting stuff that they are not suppose too.
• To spread rumours
to spread rumours about people they do not like and make everyone else around that person spreading them hate the person that the rumours are about.
These are some reasons why people make fake social media accounts to either get attention, hack people, to find love and many other reasons that are above
How to tell if it’s a fake account or not?

Uses default or fake picture
If the account has the default profile picture (not a picture of the person) or a picture that is widely available with other accounts it is a fake account. If you're trying to verify if a Facebook account is a real account, you can also look through their photos to see if more than one photo has been posted. Often a fake account will only have no photo or one photo they've randomly found on the Internet.
Misspelling
An incorrectly spelled name is another common mistake and tactic used to create a fake account. For example, a fake Donald Trump twitter account is "@donaldtrumpp" with an extra "p" in the name.
Has none of the same friends or contacts
If the fake account is on a social network like Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, look at their friend's list or who follows them. If you don't recognize anyone or share any of the same contacts, it is another indication of a fake account.
Read the person's profile
Before accepting a friend request on Facebook look at the person's profile. If what they are writing doesn't seem like something they would say or advertise in real life, ignore the request. If you've already friended them, unfriend them.
Is following way more people then they have followers
On services like Instagram and Twitter, if a person is following more people than how many followers are following them by a large percentage, it is often a clear sign of a fake account. Often a person who creates fake accounts create a script (bot) that automatically follows other people in the hopes that they will follow them back and increase their follower count.
Low follower count
It is not uncommon for a celebrity account and big business to have several thousand or even millions of followers. However, most fake accounts will have very few followers and always have fewer followers than the real person or company.
Recent join date
If the service tells when the account was created, it is also easy to identify a fake account if it has been recently created. However, keep in mind that it is not uncommon for fake accounts to be created before a real account.
