When did Instagram start and why was it made?

Instagram was launched in October 2010. It was made to connect people all over the world through photography, so that you can share anything about your life with any of your friends by sharing photos (and now videos) with anyone you choose. When Mike Krieger was at university he had to do a photo sharing project for class. They were told that their aim was to allow people to send photos of sunshine and happiness to other colder parts of the world to lighten up their day. When making Instagram, Mike and Kevin wanted to incorporate this idea into it, so this was the basis of their work.

Who is Instagram targeted at?

Instagram is targeted at anybody who has an interest in photography and photo sharing. It’s made to help these people share photos in high quality to all people over the world. This made Instagram available for people of all ages, the youngest being 13 and going up to very old ages.

How has Instagram changed?

Since the launch of Instagram in 2010, there have been various software updates and changes to the filters, hashtags, photo maps, languages, tags, videos, sponsors, direct message, IOS and terms of service. All of which have done nothing more than improve the app and make it more accessible to more and more people worldwide. As a result, Instagram has over 400 million active monthly users.

How many profiles are there on Instagram?

Within a day of launching Instagram they had 25,000 profiles and within 3 months Instagram had 1 million users. Heaps of people use Instagram everyday and they have over 100 million monthly users. There are many more profiles but not all of them are in use and they are called ghost users.
