Is Youtube killing us?
By Kaylie Toma & Ella James
What is the history of Youtube?
YouTube began when PayPal employees created a videosharing website on which users can upload, share, and view content. Youtube was activated on Monday, February 14, 2005 at 9:13PM.
How does Youtube make you money?
YouTube doesn't pay out based on the number of views you get. Instead you make money when people watch ads on your channel, instead of skipping them. The more people that watch the full ad or click the ad, the more money you'll make.
How does Youtube affect teenagers' lives? Eg. Bullying?
For example... A girl uploads a video on Youtube doing a makeup tutorial. A different girl comments on her video and says a nasty comment like... “Ewwww you're so ugly.” or “You're not doing it right, get off Youtube!” Comments like these affect people's lives deeply and have an impact on not only that specific girl but the people around her too. If this happens to you, here are some tips to help...
Block the person. Don’t let their comment get to you, don't listen to them. Everyone is different and beautiful the way they are. No one’s perfect. Report that person. Tell someone if you are finding it hard to ignore comments like that above, ask for help and don't keep it bottled up inside.

You will come across people like this in your life. Haters will hate and try to tear you down. Surround yourself with the people you love the most and give positive vibes.

Amanda Todd
Amanda Todd, made a youtube video on her channel “Thesomebodytoknow” on September 7th 2012. She titled it “My story: Struggling, bullying, suicide, self harm.” It has been 3 years since her video was published to the public. In her bio she wrote:
“I'm struggling to stay in this world, because everything just touches me so deeply. I'm not doing this for attention. I'm doing this to be an inspiration and to show that I can be strong. I did things to myself to make pain go away, because I'd rather hurt myself then someone else. Haters are haters but please don't hate, although I'm sure I'll get them. I hope I can show you guys that everyone has a story, and everyone's future will be bright one day, you just gotta pull through. I'm still here aren't I?”
To this day it has had over 11,000,000 views, to be exact it has had 11,775,793 views. She has had a massive impact on teenagers lives like her all over the world.

Because of how many people she impacted with her video, her mother Carlo Todd planned to educated parents about cyberbullying, about a month after her death. Amanda Todd committed suicide October 10, 2012. There is footage of her on a live webcam 4 hours before she took her own life. This is a tragic story and people have learnt, and taken from her experience. Amanda Todd made people all around the world realize how much bullying is a big problem but why did it have to take one beautiful, caring, kind human being off this earth just to bring it to our attention.
So if a person on YouTube is saying mean and cruel comments about you or your channel, I suggest you talk to someone about it or block that person so that they cannot say any more rude and unnecessary comments. To save ourselves pain, hurt, and hate, why put something up on your social media accounts that you caption “no hate please” why put something up that could backfire? Why put a video up on YouTube explaining your life tragedies when there are predators out there waiting, and watching for their next target to take down. Instead of going through this why not just go to a physical person and ask for help. I understand that people feel the need to post things on social media in a way of calling out for help, why not just confront a friend, family member, teacher and ask for help.
