Catfishers, who are they?
Catfishing happens all over the world every day. Over
one million people get cat fished a year. But who is
behind these vicious misleadings? There are many different reasons a catfisher could be leading you on.

There’s the Bored Catfisher. This catfish has an open internet connection and too much time on his/her hands.
You may or may not know this person either way It doesn’t matter, you’ve been randomly chosen to be lured into the trap. This catfish might also be motivated by nothing more than the fact that messing with you sounds fun. Then there's the Catfisher who already feels a personal attraction to you even though you have only been talking for 2 days. This catfish has a major crush on you, and for some reason doesn’t find
him/herself good enough in real life to find someone that is actually attracted to them. This catfish is
simply out to break hearts and cause mayhem. There’s the Lonely Catfish. This catfish on average
has some sort of sad story to lure you in. they say they need someone to talk too, they might have a
pretty picture and a Facebook profile, you’ve become that person that's been targeted. You might
end up becoming close to this person, sharing secrets and long talks because, again, this person is
lonely and you’re the path to solving this, this is if you haven't caught them out on their mission to
wriggle into your life. This can be the most difficult catfish to deal with once they’re “outed,” because if you don’t care to continue the relationship, it’s usually because you aren’t attracted to them.
Also, the lying, they often aren't telling the truth. Even if their old flame had left them, the part about them not going to cause chaos probably isn't entirely true.

Catfishers are not all the same. They have their own sneaky tactics to edge their way into your lives.
They are not one size fits all, and sometimes they fall into various categories. But even those these
are the most common reason for cat fishing there's always other reasons.

We’re all catfish. You have probably edited your profile picture to look a little better, untagged
yourself from that hideous family photo your mother tagged you in, faked a location checkin
pretending you're at a fancy restaurant rather than your actual current location… your bed with
movies and ice cream. Nearly everyone is guilty of changing form of the truth with our profiles to
some degree, some changing information more than others. Social media is a very aspirational and
it’s not very surprising that it’s led to a year of mayhem and viscous catfishing.

How do you catch a catfish?
There are many ways to catch out a catfish

1. If they seen too good to be true, they probably are. (Catfishers share false information just to
suit your preferences so you get attracted to them and take the bait.
2. If they want to make things serious with you only after a short period of time there may be a
chance that you are getting catfished. (Catfishers gain your trust and move to the next level
usually to get things out of you such as money, If they ask for money you should start to enquire
whether they are scamming you or not.)
3. If they don’t know what skype is or make up constant excuses not to talk face to face or over
the phone then they might be fake. (Catfishers do this because sometimes their fake identity
doesn’t match their real identities, Example: Their voice may not match their ethnicity which
makes them ‘unable’ to talk on the phone)
4. If you meet them out of nowhere online and they say they have fallen in love with you, then
you’ve met a catfish. (Catfishers use the “love” card to try gain your trust so they can get what
they want from you whether that be: Information to money.)
5. If they only have one or two photos of them and refuse to send photos of themselves then
you have met a catfish.
6. If they look like a model of mildly famous they could be a catfisher. (Not saying everyone that
looks like a model of famous will be a catfisher, Just Catfishers use attractive photos to entice
people to talk to them and photos of models usually does the trick.)
7. Trust your gut! (If you have some sort of suspicion about the person you are talking to then
you are most likely correct. And if you are suspicious then make sure you keep careful watch
out for any signs then they might be a catfisher.)
But catfishers come in all shapes and sizes so keep your eyes and ears open for all turns in the
moment.
