Should Social Media Stop?

SHOULD SOCIAL MEDIA HAVE AN EXPIRY DATE?

IF SO WHY?

Social media has really taken off since it began around 1997. It has become such a huge part in our lives now, it's hard to imagine life without it. We were thinking, will it ever stop? Is social media too big not to continue? We decided to investigate whether or not we should quit, and why?

Social media was originally brought to life with the idea that it would let everyone around the world have a voice. But in the world we live in now, connecting with friends and people all around the world is completely overriding the first idea.

If social media was to die or 'expire' as such, would we be happier? Would you act differently? As most people know, on social media people generally post the highlights of their life and even sometimes even the depressing parts about their life. On social media it is very easy to post or say stuff about your life and friends that you wouldn’t say in real life and that can really affect yourself and people around you. It can also affect how others think of you.

Because of this we are losing the art of having a good conversation. We prefer to talk to people online than face to face. Talking to people online is great as it is an easy and efficient way to have a conversation but we use it so much that it becomes way more "normal" to discuss things in text. Talking in text/online it is much easier to say things that we would never say to someone's face, this can lead to so many problems.

Cyberbullying is just one of the major problems that come along with that. Not just that but it's becoming harder for our generation too when we are hanging out with friends or with other people as we find it much easier to sit on our phone and text than actually have a conversation.

How is this good or helpful? In saying this, the way we can have a voice, be heard and have our information and thoughts passed on instantly to where we want them to go is so helpful. The thing about social media is there are so many parts and aspects to it so It is really difficult to be able to say should it stop or expire. Social media has so many great and helpful things that are changing our world for better but then also for worse.

Are all the problems that come with social media worth it? Would our world be better without it?  Would you and I be different without it? Would you be happier, and love yourself more? Would you spend that extra twenty minutes on your Maths homework due tomorrow

Just ask yourself those things and then you can decide whether social media should stop.
